Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy is part of the Terms of Service between you and Thorn Street, Inc. ("Thorn Street," "we" or "us") and applies to everyone who uses our Services, including Leif and the Published Links made with it. Capitalized terms have the meanings given in the Terms of Service at https://thornstreet.com/terms-of-service. If you see a violation, tell us at legal@thornstreet.com.
1. Illegal, harmful or infringing use
Do not use the Services to:
- break any law or regulation, or help anyone else do so;
- infringe or misappropriate anyone's intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights, including by publishing data or imagery you do not have the right to publish;
- defame, harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse anyone, or promote violence or hatred against any person or group;
- create, publish or distribute content that is sexually explicit involving minors, or that exploits or endangers minors in any way;
- defraud or deceive anyone, including by impersonating a person or organization or misrepresenting where content came from;
- send spam or unsolicited messages, or host phishing pages, malware or other harmful content at a Published Link.
2. People and places
Leif works with locations, which can be sensitive. Do not use the Services to:
- locate, track, monitor or surveil a specific individual without their consent or lawful authority, or compile information about where a person lives, works or goes so that someone can find, stalk or harm them;
- make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on individuals, such as eligibility for housing, credit, insurance, employment or public benefits, based on protected characteristics or on Outputs alone;
- plan, target or carry out an attack on people, property or critical infrastructure, or develop or use weapons;
- help anyone evade law enforcement, sanctions or export controls;
- rely on Outputs alone, without verification by a qualified person, for decisions where an error could cause injury or property damage, such as navigation, emergency response, excavation or utility locating, construction staking or aviation (Terms of Service, Section 4.2), or share Outputs with others as verified when they are not (Section 4.4).
3. Restricted information
Other people's sensitive information: don't put it into Leif. Unless we have agreed in writing that you may, do not submit to the Services information about other people, or records, of these kinds:
- protected health information subject to HIPAA, or other information about an individual's health, such as patients' or clients' records;
- government-issued identification numbers, financial account or payment card numbers, or passwords and other credentials (other than those you use to sign in to the Services);
- information about children under 16;
- biometric or genetic data, or other special categories of personal data under the GDPR or "sensitive" personal information under U.S. state privacy laws;
- classified information, or technical data controlled under U.S. export control laws (such as the ITAR).
We have not agreed to receive this information, or to give it the special protections the law may require for it, such as HIPAA's, and the Services are not designed for it. If it is submitted anyway, it gets the same reasonable security as all Your Content (Terms of Service, Section 9), and nothing more. Thorn Street is not a business associate under HIPAA, and nothing in our terms makes it one, unless you and we have both signed a business associate agreement. We do not monitor Your Content for this information and have no obligation to find, remove or report it. If you submit it anyway, you do so at your own risk and are solely responsible for it, including any notice, consent or other obligation you owe the people it is about, and, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for it or for its submission. We may, but don't have to, delete it and suspend the threads or account that hold it.
Your own information: up to you. This section doesn't stop you from telling Leif about yourself, for example a health need it should take into account. What you share about yourself is your choice; our Privacy Policy describes what happens to it and how to remove it.
4. The Services, Leif's threads and Third-Party Data
Do not:
- use a thread's computing resources for anything other than your work with Leif, including cryptocurrency mining, running a public service, or relaying traffic;
- use the Services to probe, scan, attack or gain unauthorized access to any system or network, including ours, or connect an account (such as Google Drive or ArcGIS) that you are not authorized to use;
- try to get around the limits, metering, billing, isolation or security of the Services or of a thread, or to reach other users' threads, data or keys;
- introduce malware, or interfere with or overload the Services or the systems of our providers, including by making excessive automated requests;
- extract, scrape, bulk download, cache or resell Third-Party Data beyond what the Services allow, combine it in ways its terms forbid, or remove its attributions, as described on our Data Sources page at https://thornstreet.com/data-sources;
- use the Services, Outputs or Third-Party Data to build or train a competing product or service, or AI models that compete with the AI models we use;
- resell or provide the Services to others as a service, except as a written agreement with us allows.
5. AI model providers' policies
Leif's AI models are provided by third-party AI model providers, which may change from time to time and are listed at https://thornstreet.com/subprocessors. Your use of Leif must also follow the usage policies of the providers whose models Leif uses, which this policy includes by reference. Today that is Anthropic's Usage Policy (https://www.anthropic.com/legal/aup).
6. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations, and we may remove or disable content or Published Links, limit or suspend use of the Services, or close accounts that violate this policy, as the Terms of Service describe. We may report violations to law enforcement or affected third parties where we believe it is appropriate or required. We may update this policy from time to time, as the Terms of Service describe.
